Most operational technology problems presented to us as technology problems turn out to be model problems, ownership problems, or trust problems. Our approach is shaped around that.

Assess before building

We begin almost every engagement by establishing the actual condition of what exists. A health audit is not a formality before the real work — it routinely changes the scope. Migrations planned without one carry existing defects onto new infrastructure. Analytics programmes built without one train models on data nobody has verified.

Model the asset, not the tag

A tag name is institutional knowledge locked inside one person’s head. The Asset Framework model is where that knowledge becomes structure the organisation can use. Nearly everything downstream — dashboards, condition monitoring, machine learning, lakehouse integration — inherits the quality of that model. We do this step properly even when a client arrives asking for something further down the chain.

Respect what the data actually is

Operational data is not business data. It is compressed by exception, carries quality codes, arrives late and out of order, and reflects deliberate engineering decisions made years ago under constraints that may no longer apply. Treating it as though it were rows in a transactional database produces confident, wrong answers. We handle it as what it is.

Build for the decision

If nobody can say what action a dashboard drives or what an alert should cause someone to do, we would rather not build it. Detection that never reaches the control room is a research project, and alerting that generates noise gets switched off — which is worse than never having built it.

Hand it over

Templates, naming standards, runbooks and documentation are deliverables, not afterthoughts. We train your team on your own system with your own assets, because generic courseware teaches the product and leaves the gap between the product and your plant exactly where it was.

Be honest about the recommendation

We hold AVEVA accreditations and work across Aspen platforms. We are not a reseller, and we have no volume target to meet. Where consolidation pays for itself we will say so; where federating a mixed estate is the better economics, we will say that instead. Sometimes the right answer is that the problem does not justify the project.
